This year our race is set for Saturday, Sept 12th. We need volunteers to help with many

different areas including out on the course, at the aid station to hand out water, with set up and clean up, serving the food after the participants finish, etc. Please help us out by signing up at:

Calling all women of St Matt’s and their friends to join us, Lois Brooks and Elizabeth Wheeler, in the Beyond Words Book Club, a monthly meeting at St. Matt’s on the second Wednesday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This month Joyce B. Lohse, a local author, will be speaking about her book “Among Canyon Shadows”, which tells the true story of Boston artist Beatrice Farnham set in the Colorado National Monument. Bring your own beverage and snack if you like, and an optional contribution for the church. It's never too late to join. See you September 9th!

Please join us on Sept. 5th to hike Crag Crest,

up on the Grand Mesa! We’ll meet at the

church at 8:00 am to carpool up, but since there

are some who want to hike the full loop and

others who prefer to go up and back down

without walking the actual Crest, please sign up in the gathering space

with your preference indicated. This is considered a hard trail and is at least 10,000 ft altitude to

start. Elevation gain is about 1500 ft for the full, 11-mile loop with an estimate of 5-6 hours to

complete. The hike to the overlook is still over 1000 ft elevation gain, but maybe 5-6 miles for up

and down. Given the altitude, please come prepared for multiple weather options, plenty of

St. Matt's Movie Day for all ages:, August 30th from 11:30– 2:00. Join

us for an afternoon of movies, popcorn, sandwiches, and fun, hosted by

the St. Matt’s Youth Group! We’ll be showing movies in two different

rooms, so there’s something for everyone:

Sunday, August 23rd: A Discussion of Magnifica

Humanitas. Addressed to "all Christians and to all men and women of

goodwill", Pope Leo XIV's recent pastoral letter Magnifica Humanitas

(The Greatness of Humanity) is not so much about artificial intelligence

and technology as it is a profound reflection on what it means to be

human in an age increasingly shaped by machines and algorithms. Leo argues that the human

person must always remain the measure of technology and not the other way around. Join us at

9:00 for what should be an interesting discussion of the proliferation of social media, the rise of

AI, and how our lives are affected by modern technology. A brief summary of the encyclical will

be provided. All are welcome.

Sunday, August 9th. Death & Dying: the Christian Perspective. Contrary to popular notion, death doesn't take place in an instant but is really part of a natural process that includes aging and the gradual weakening of our bodies. Growing old can also be a meaningful and even fruitful stage of life. On Sunday, August 9th you are invited to join Mother Jan and Father Emil at 9:00 for what should be an interesting and hope-filled discussion of death and dying from a Christian perspective. Everyone is welcome.
